Date

January 2000

Location

Rue de la Croix de Fer, Brussels, Belgium

25 years ago, Teti was born at 12 rue de la Croix de fer in Brussels " L'origine de l'amour / the origin of love " Teti was exhibited in Brussels with Orlan's artwork " L'origine de la guerre / the origin of war "

Teti is the symbol of love, lust and life. Teti is not a symbol of hate and dominance.

One question always remained. Why Teti was hated, bullied, and symbolised as the origin of war. Why should it be hidden and why should one be ashamed of it.

So, I began my research around men's sex symbols in Brussels starting with Manneken pis " un ZIZI a Bruxelles " Placing men in the center of my research. Agnes from Art Kiosk Gallery thought of making an event out of my concept of Teti " un ZIZI a Bruxelles 2000 " An exhibition during “Brussels 2000 “. Inviting different artists to participate placing the origin of war with the origin of love.

Teti is the expression of what I felt looking into people's interpretations of the historical sacred texts, related to men's sexuality. Those interpretations that were Leading to violence and hate against homosexuals and anybody else that didn’t fit their mold or their comprehension of love.

This artwork the Sexus Veritas Tripticus is a window that was opened into one's interpretations of one's own truth and beliefs from the 3 monotheistic religions.
Why people's interpretations were always leading to violence against the LGBTQ or anyone else that doesn't fit their own understanding of their own interpretations. It always comes to hate and violence against gay people. Gays have always been and still are the bouc émissaire of everyone's sins justifying their bullying, their hate, and violence. Gays being the corrupting object of temptation and lust.

The objective of Teti is neither to please nor to displease but is to create a mirror where one can face and interact with his own interpretations. Create a dimension of confrontation with one's self-beliefs, provoking a reaction into one's own interpretations, and why should one be ashamed if his own creator made him who he is? Isn't his creator the perfection? His creator doesn't he know what he is creating? And why should this creature be violent against those other creatures who were also created by the same creator? In his own image? too? no?
